CSCvw96082 | Include support for new DDR3 Dual Rank Device in BIOS for certain NCS5500 Line Cards |
CSCvw54888 | [NC55-36X100G] Include support for new DDR3 Dual Rank Device in BIOS |
Certain hardware versions (referred as Version ID or VID) of Network Convergence System (NCS) 5500 line cards, as mentioned in the Products Affected section, require a minimum Cisco IOS® XR Software Release or Software Maintenance Upgrade (SMU) to be supported.
For NC55-36X100G - The minimum software release is 7.2.2/7.3.1 or later or SMU for earlier releases.
For NC55-18H18F, NC55-24H12F-SE, NC55-36X100G-S, and NC55-6X200-DWDM-S - The minimum software release is 7.4.1 or later or SMU for earlier releases.
A new hardware version for the affected line cards will be introduced to address the End-of-Life (EoL) of an existing memory component. This version will be supported only by a minimum Cisco IOS XR Software Release.
For earlier software releases, a reload SMU needs to be installed.
When the user installs an affected line card with a non-supported Cisco IOS XR software release or without the required SMU, the line card will boot with the backup Bootloader version as shown in these examples.

Option 2. Upgrade
For NC55-36X100G
Cisco IOS XR software can be migrated to Cisco IOS XR Software Releases 7.2.2/7.3.1 or later. These releases do not require any of the SMUs.
For NC55-18H18F, NC55-24H12F-SE, NC55-36X100G-S, and NC55-6X200-DWDM-S
Cisco IOS XR software can be migrated to Cisco IOS XR Software Release 7.4.1 or later. This release does not require any of the SMUs.
Refer to the NCS 5500 Software Download Page for the latest software releases.
Refer to this table in order to find the affected Version ID (VID). The VID can be identified through the CLI or physically on the line card.
Affected Product ID | Affected Version ID |
---|---|
NC55-36X100G | V06 or later |
