Problem Description

An upgrade to the BroadWorks server to any version between Rel_2022.04 to Rel_2023.02 inclusively might fail.

Background

An upgrade to a BroadWorks server to any version between Rel_2022.04 to Rel_2023.02 inclusively might fail if the server has an empty bwCATruststore under /var/broadworks/ssl/truststore.

Problem Symptom

A customer who upgraded a Release 22.0 Xtended Services Platform (XSP) to a 2022.10_1.313 ADP encountered this issue. The upgrade stopped after the /usr/local/broadworks/ADP_Rel_2022.10_1.313/sbin/setup/upgrade/Rel_25.0/v1.901/ patch was applied because the bwCATrustore was empty:

The auto-revert also caused another isssue. The bwTruststore, under /var/broadworks/ssl/truststore, was not accessible afterwards.

Workaround/Solution

Workaround

Before you perform an upgrade to a BroadWorks version between 2022.04 to 2023.02 (inclusively), you must validate that there is not an empty bwCATruststore (size equal to 0) under /var/broadworks/ssl/truststore. If there is an empty bwCATruststore, you must remove it first with this command.

rm -f /var/broadworks/ssl/truststore/bwCATruststore

It is recommended to perform a backup of /var/broadworks/ssl/truststore/bwTruststore and /var/broadworks/ssl/keystore/bwKeystore before you attempt the upgrade.

Solution

When you upgrade any BroadWorks server to a Release Independent version, you should avoid versions between 2022.04 to 2023.02 (inclusively) and should select 2023.03 at the minimum:
