Configure a Custom vManage Application Server Logo

Introduction

This document describes the process to modify the vManage application server logo images. The change is made from the vManage CLI. 

Prerequisites

Requirements

You can load two files, a larger version, which is displayed on wider browser screens, and a smaller version, which is displayed when the screen size narrows. Both files must be png files located on the local device, and both must be 1 MB or smaller in size. For best resolution, it is recommended that the image for the large logo be 180 x 33 pixels, and for the small logo 30 x 33 pixels.

Background Information

The logo image is in the upper left corner of all Cisco vManage web application server screens. It can be changed to apply customization to the screen, for example, to apply a brand logo in place of the Cisco logo. It can also be changed in order to differentiate between multiple vManage screens, for example, one logo applied to the lab vManage and a different logo applied to the production vManage. The logo is a png file and can easily be created with a graphics editor application such as GIMP.

Procedure

To download the logos to the vManage server, they must be accessible from the local vManage network, for example, on a local web server. In this example, logos are hosted in a Dropbox account with direct links for access. Other ephemeral hosting services can be used if a direct URL link is created in the process.

Note: Dropbox is used here for expediency. Remember to remove the files from Dropbox immediately after the process is complete.

Here is the process to upload the logo files to Dropbox.

1. Open Dropbox in a browser and log in to your personal account.
2. Upload the two png files to Dropbox.
3. Once the files are uploaded, click the share option to create URLs for both images.
4. Copy and paste the URLs into a text file where they can be edited.

The URLs must look something like this:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/5x1fou1cs6hn56t/vManageLogo_sm.png?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ppj2nydequ6qb3j/vManageLogo.png?dl=0 

5. Modify the URLs so that they can be accessed by wget.

The modified URLs must look like this:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/5x1fou1cs6hn56t/vManageLogo_sm.png

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/ppj2nydequ6qb3j/vManageLogo.png

With these steps completed, the logos are ready to be downloaded to vManage. Here is the process to download the logos to vManage.

1. Log in to vManage.
2. Navigate to Menu>Tools>SSH Terminal.
3. Click the vManage server in the left panel to ssh into vManage.
4. Log in to vManage CLI.
5. Enter the command vshell to drop to a unix shell.

vmanage# vshell

6. Use the wget command to download the two files with the URLs created in previous steps.

vmanage:-$ wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/5x1fou1cs6hn56t/vManageLogo_sm.png 

vmanage:-$ wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/5x1fou1cs6hn56t/vManageLogo.png

To change the Cisco vManage web application server logo and load a new custom logo, use the request nms application-server update-logo command.

vmanage# request nms application-server update-logo vManageLogo.png vManageLogo_sm.png
