The documentation set for this product strives to use bias-free language. For the purposes of this documentation set, bias-free is defined as language that does not imply discrimination based on age, disability, gender, racial identity, ethnic identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and intersectionality. Exceptions may be present in the documentation due to language that is hardcoded in the user interfaces of the product software, language used based on RFP documentation, or language that is used by a referenced third-party product. This document describes the various Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) flap-reasons on a Cisco vEdge router.
Cisco recommends that you have knowledge of Cisco SDWAN solution.
This document is based on Cisco cloud vEdge router running 19.2.1.
The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, ensure that you understand the potential impact of any command.
This document is not restricted to any specific topology.
IP addresses and colors of some important components in this document:
Component | System-IP | VPN 0 IP / Color | VPN 0 IP / Color |
VEDGE-1 | 10.13.13.13 | 192.168.1.4 / mpls | 192.168.2.4 / mpls |
VEDGE-2 | 10.15.15.15 | 192.168.1.8 / biz-internet | 192.168.2.8 / biz-internet |
vSmart | 10.8.8.8 | 192.168.1.3 / default | NA |
vManage | 10.7.7.7 | 192.168.1.1 / default | NA |
The possible values of 'flap-reason' on a Cisco vEdge router are:
1. bfd-deleted - BFD goes down because the control plane has deleted it.
You raise two notifications when BFD is deleted. One for BFD down and one when BFD gets deleted.
2. timeout - No BFD response from the remote end.
3. remote-down - Remote end sent a BFD packet that indicates that it has gone to down-state.4.
4. na - not applicable. This is set when the BFD session is created for the first time and when the BFD session comes up.
Perform a port-hop on VEDGE-1 router and reproduce this scenario:
