Introduction

This article describes how to successfully share an exisiting license across multiple Cisco Email Security Appliances (ESAs).

Share Licenses Across Multiple ESAs

With a purchased license product activation key (PAK), it is possible to share the license across multiple ESAs.

From the Product License Registration portal, complete these steps:

1. From the portal, click Licenses > Move Licenses
2. In the drop-down menu, select Share licenses... > Get activation code...
3. In the "Share License Process" pop-up window, for Product, select Iron Port Product - SW Bundles
4. In the Source Serial Number / Virtual Device Identifier field, enter the source serial number

   Tip: You only need to enter the end of the complete serial number. For example, if the complete serial number is 888869E737F5-33NPP11, enter 33NPP11.

5. In the Target Serial Number / Virtual Device Identifier field, enter the target serial number

   Tip: You only need to enter the end of the complete serial number. For example, if the complete serial number is 999969E748G65-44MQQ22, enter 44MQQ22.

6. In the Send to field, enter a valid email address
7. Click Request Code

After successful completion, an email is sent to the email address entered. Within the email there are hyperlinks for access and validation. It may take up to one hour to receive the license registration email.

Here is the device registration information:
Existing Device Serial # : 33NPP11
New Device Serial # : 44MQQ22

Please click the below link and follow the instructions given below to continue the registration process:

1) Click on Other Licenses drop down and Select 'Share License Process' option.
2) Select 'Use Activation code' option and Enter the above activation code in 'Specify Activation Code' tab and click on Next button to register the activation code.

You will then re-visit the Product License Registration portal.

1. Click Licenses > Move Licenses
2. In the drop-down menu, select Share licenses... > Use activation code...
3. Enter in the Activation Code provided in the email and click Next
4. Confirm the activation code, source serial, and target serial and click Next
5. Complete the review to finish

Afterwards, from the appliance GUI, choose System Administration > Feature Keys > Check for New Keys in order to check for the keys and activations. Or, from the CLI, enter featurekey and checknow. For any/all features that are new to the ESA, the End User License Agreement (EULA) needs to be read and accepted in order to activate the feature.
