Introduction
This document describes the maximum length of characters the Cisco Email Security Appliance (ESA) supports for the user name and passphrase for appliance access and Spam Quarantine access.
Maximum Character Length of User Name and Passphrase
Appliance Access - User Name
AsyncOS version 11.0 or newer:
- User name limit (Local and LDAP): No limit
For AsyncOS version 10.0.1 or older:
- User name limit (Local and LDAP): 16 characters
Appliance Access - Passphrase
By default, the passphrase requirements are:
A passphrase must contain the following:
at least 8 characters.
at least one upper (A-Z) and lower (a-z) case letter.
at least one number (0-9).
at least one special character.
The following characters are allowed: ~ ? ! @ # $ % ^ & * - _ + = \ | / [ ] ( ) < > { } ` ' " ; : , .
not be a username or one of its variations.
not any of 3 recent passphrase.
Note: Passphrase requirements can be changed. Navigate to System Administration > Users in the Local User Account & Passphrase Settings section. Refer the User Guide for further details.
- Local login passphrase: No limit
- LDAP password: 128 characters (Microsoft default limit)
Spam Quarantine Access - User Name
- Local user name limit: 16 characters
- LDAP user name limit: 33 characters
Spam Quarantine Access - Passphrase
- Local login passphrase: 129 characters
- LDAP passphrase: 128 characters (Microsoft default limit)
