Introduction
This document describes how to resolve a lack of Fiber Channel (FC) connectivity after you move from 8 Gigabit (G) FC to 16G FC or 32G FC, with Qlogic 32G Host Bus Adapter (HBA).
Prerequisites
Requirements
There are no specific requirements for this document.
Components Used
The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions:
- C460-M4 with 4.0.2f Firmware
- QLE2742 Qlogic QLE2742 dual-port 32G FC HBA with Firmware 8.08.05-83
- Brocade Fibre Channel 16G or 32G switch
The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, ensure that you understand the potential impact of any command.
Problem
Fiber Channel Connectivity to storage is lost after it moves from 8G FC to 16G FC or 32G FC on a Qlogic HBA.
Fabric Login (Flogi) and or Process Login (Plogi) can be failed. Issues might occur from Bios update, HBA replacement, or motherboard replacement.
Diagnostic Port (D_Port) is enabled but is not compatible with 8GB FC, therefore, D_Port is not active and no issue is seen. D_Port is compatible with 16G FC and 32G FC; when speed is increased connectivity issues are seen as D_Port becomes active as it's minimum requirements are now met with the faster FC link speeds.
Solution
Disable the D_Port setting in the Bios Option Rom for Qlogic Adapter. These steps are disruptive as they require a reboot.
Navigate to KVM Console > Reboot Server and press F2 in order to enter the BIOS Setup. Then navigate to Advanced > Qlogic Fibre Channel Adapter > Advanced > D_Port and select Disabled > F10 in order to Save & Exit.
