A VPN is a virtual private network. It allows data to be transferred by the internet without allowing the public access. This increases security because the only people who are allowed access to this netowork are people who are added through VPN Client Access page.
This document explains how to setup VPN client and manage the VPN security cetificate on the RV016.
• RV016
Step 1. At the RV016 10/100 16-Port VPN Router choose VPN > VPN Client Access.
Step 2. Enter the name of the user you want to add to your VPN network into the Username field.
Step 3. Enter the password that you want to assign the new user into both the New Password and Confirm New Password fields.
Step 4. Click the Yes or No radio buttons to allow or ban the new user from changing his or her password.
Step 5. Click the Active checkbox to classify the new user as an active user.
Step 6. Click Add to list to confirm the user.
Step 7. Click on an existing user to update his or her information, delete their account, or add a new user.
Note: Click Update, Delete, and Add New User respectively to complete the tasks above.
Step 8. Click Save.
Step 1. Click Generate to generate a new VPN certificate.
Note: This will delete all of your existing users from the network.
Step 2. Click OK to continue.
Step 3. Click Export for Admin to export a copy of the certificate as a backup file. Click the file in the download bar to open the File Download window.
Note: Make sure to export a copy of the certificate to a safe, easy to access location if you reset the RV016.
Step 4. Enter a descriptive file name and click Save; then click Close to exit the File Download window.
Step 5. Click Export for Client to save a file that can be given to the VPN client. The File Download window opens.
Step 6. Enter a descriptive file name and click Save; then click Close to exit the File Download window.
Step 7. Click Choose File to select a previously saved administrator certificate.
Step 8. Click Import to restore the previous administrator certificate.
Step 9. Click Save.
