A Virtual LAN (VLAN) can create multiple logical LANs inside one physical LAN by breaking up broadcast domains. These broken up broadcast packets go to specific ports of the LAN based on VLAN IDs that are assigned to them. It is also based on if they are tagged, untagged or excluded. VLANs can be used to securely organize broadcast traffic. For example, a company would use VLANs to separate the broadcast traffic that the managers receive from the broadcast traffic that the normal workforce receives. This article explains how to create a new VLAN membership on the CVR100W VPN Router.
• CVR100W VPN Router
• 1.0.1.19
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Networking > LAN > VLAN Membership. The VLAN Membership page opens:
Step 2. Click Add Row to create a new VLAN. A new row is added to the VLAN Membership page:
Step 3. Enter a VLAN ID number (ranging between 4-15) in the VLAN ID field.
Step 4. Enter a description for the new VLAN in the Description field.
Step 5. Under Port 1, 2, 3, and 4 chose one of the three options for each port:
• Untagged — The port is labeled as untagged. All packets that are untagged will be sent to this port. This includes all packets that have not been tagged with specific VLAN IDs and are by default, VLAN 1.
• Tagged — The port is labeled as tagged. All packets that have been given a specific VLAN ID identical to the VLAN ID configured in the row are sent to this port.
• Excluded — The port is labeled as excluded. The port is not a part of the VLAN.
Step 6. Click Save.
Step 7. (Optional) To edit the VLAN, check the box of the VLAN, click Edit, edit the desired fields, and click Save.
Step 8. (Optional) To delete the VLAN, check the box of the VLAN, click Delete, and click Save.
