Enable Discovery-Bonjour on the RV34x Series Router

Objective

Bonjour is a service discovery protocol that is used for automatic discovery of devices and services on Internet Protocol (IP) networks. Bonjour enables automatic IP address assignment without a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server name to address translation without a Domain Name System (DNS) server, and service discovery without a directory server. When Bonjour is enabled, the router periodically multicasts Bonjour service records to the entire local network to advertise the existence of an RV34x router and the services that it provides.

It is possible to enable Bonjour on specific Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs). Enabling Bonjour on a VLAN allows devices on that VLAN to discover the Bonjour services available on the router such as Hypertext Transmission Protocol (HTTP) or Hypertext Transmission Protocol Secure (HTTPS).

Note: Bonjour only advertises the default services configured on your router when it is enabled. For example, if a certain VLAN is configured with an ID of 2, devices and hosts on the VLAN 2 cannot discover the Bonjour services running on the router unless Bonjour is enabled specifically for VLAN 2.

Enable Discovery-Bonjour

Step 1. Log in to the router web-based utility and choose System Configuration > Discovery-Bonjour.

Step 2. Check the Discovery-Bonjour Enable check box to enable Bonjour globally. This box is checked by default.

Step 3. (Optional) In the Bonjour Interface Control Table, choose the specific VLAN where you want to enable Bonjour and check the check box.

Step 4. Click Apply.

You should now have successfully enabled Discovery-Bonjour on the RV34x Series Router.
