The objective of this article is to go over the change to remove the mini-USB console port on Catalyst 1000, Cisco Business 350, and Cisco Business 250 Series Switches.
A console port is used to access the command line interface (CLI) locally through a serial connection. The CLI can be used to configure and troubleshoot especially when the network is not available.
A change has been made to remove the mini-USB console port on Catalyst 1000, Cisco Business 350 and Cisco Business 250 Series Switches. The RJ45 console port is not affected. You can still access the console port on the switch through an RJ45 console cable.
The following images illustrate the change.
In the original design, the console can be accessed through either RJ45 or mini-USB port. Notice the ports above the blue line, circled in red. The USB port is on the left.
After the change, only the RJ-45 console port remains.
This change applies to the following switch models on the new hardware version starting from the Version ID number (VID) below.
Product ID (PID) stays the same for the new hardware version. You will not be able to select whether to have the original hardware version or the new hardware version when you order the switch.

If your switch has a mini-USB console port, it will continue to be supported. You can choose to use the mini-USB or the RJ45 console port to access the switch console. Only one port will be active at a time. Use the appropriate cable for the port on which you choose to access the console.
Without a mini-USB console port, the switch console can still be accessed through the RJ45 console port. You will need a console cable to connect the console port to your computer. Typically, the console cable has a DB-9 socket on one end and an RJ-45 connector on the other. You may need a serial to USB adaptor if you do not have serial port on your computer.
If enabled, the CLI can be accessed with SSH or Telnet.
The switch’s web user interface can be accessed with a browser via HTTP or HTTPS.
If you have any questions about this change or have issues using the console port, contact Cisco support.
