The 200/300 Series Managed Switches offers Smartports. Smartports detect a device currently connected to the switch, and automatically apply a configuration or macro to properly configure this device. You can edit an interface to apply this setup to specific devices. Smartports are a good way to set up different devices connected to a switch. This article explains how to configure Smartport on an interface on the 200/300 Series Managed Switches.

Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Smartport > Interface Settings. The Interface Settings page opens:
Step 2. In the Reapply Smartport Macro field, click one of the radio buttons available to choose the devices to reapply a macro:
• All Switches, Router and Wireless Access points — Macro is reapplied to all switches, routers, and wireless access points.
• All Switches — Macro is reapplied only to switches.
• All Routers — Macro is reapplied only to routers.
• All Wireless Access Points — Macro is reapplied only to wireless access points.
Step 3. Click Apply to reapply the macro on the chose devices.
Note: The Show Diagnostics, Reapply and Reset All Unkown Smartports buttons are enabled only if a Smartport macro fails and the type of an interface is unknown. If this is the case, click Show Diagnostic to see where the macro failed. After the macro is fixed, you can click Reapply to reapply the macro. If the problem persists, click Reset All Unknown Smartports to set the interfaces to their default values. You can reapply the macro once the macro is totally fixed.
Step 4. To edit the Auto Smartport configuration of a particular interface, click the radio button of the interface you would like to edit.
Step 5. Click Edit. The Edit Interface Setting window appears.
Note: If you would like to edit a LAG (Link Aggregation Group) interface, click LAG. From the LAG drop-down list, choose the LAG you would like to edit. A LAG combines individual interfaces into a single logical link, which provides an aggregate bandwidth of up to eight physical links.
The Smartport Type field displays the current Smartport type configured on the chose interface.
Step 6. Choose the application that you would like to apply to the chosen interface from the Smartport Application drop-down list.
The Smartport Application Method field displays the current method applied to the chosen interface. Interfaces are assigned with the Auto Smartport application method by default. If no application is chosen from Step 6, then Auto Smartport chooses an application based on the information given in the CDP (Cisco Discovery Protocol) and/or LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) which are protocols that gather all the necessary information about the connected devices on the switch.
Step 7. In the Persistent Status field, check the Enabled check box to enable persistent status on the interface. This option is available only if in Step 6 Auto Smartport was chosen as the Smartport Application. With Persistent Status enabled, auto Smartport remains enabled in the interface even if the interface goes down or the switch is rebooted.
Step 8. The Macro Parameters field displays the next information for up to three parameters of a macro. These parameters vary accordingly with the Smartport Application chosen in step 5. The following parameters are displayed:
• Parameter Name — Displays the name of the parameter in the current macro.
• Parameter Value — Displays the current parameter value of the macro. For Parameter 1 Value, this value represents the maximum number of hosts/devices the port allows. For Parameter 2 Value, this value represents the VLAN ID assigned to the port. You can edit both Parameter 1 and 2 values, but you can't edit Parameter 3 Value. Parameter 3 Value is fixed and cannot be modified.
• Parameter Description —Displays a brief description of the parameter.
Step 8. (Optional) Click Reset to set the current interface to the default values.
Step 9. Click Apply to save your configuration.
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Smartport > Interface Settings. The Interface Settings page opens:
Step 2. Click the radio button of the interface that you would like to apply to multiple interfaces.
Step 3. Click Copy Settings. The Copy Settings window appears.
Step 4. In the To field, enter the interfaces you want to apply the configuration of the interface chosen in Step 2. You can enter a single interface or a range of interfaces. You can use the interface numbers or the name of the interfaces as input. You can enter each interface separated by a comma (For example: 1, 3, 5 or GE1, GE3, GE5) or you can enter a range of interfaces (For example: 1-5 or GE1-GE5).
Step 5. Click Apply to save your configuration.
