Dynamic MAC Address Aging Time Setup on the 200/300 Series Managed Switches

Objective

The Dynamic Address Table contains all of the MAC addresses that are obtained from the incoming traffic to the switch. If the destination address for an incoming traffic is found in the database, the packet is directly sent to its port rather than all ports. This table can't hold every MAC address, therefore, to maintain the table, an address is deleted if there is no traffic received from a dynamic MAC address for a specific period of time. This time is called the Aging Time.

This article explains how to set the Aging Time on the 200/300 Series Managed Switches.

Dynamic Aging Time Setup

Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose MAC Address Tables > Dynamic Address Settings. The Dynamic Address Settings page opens:

Step 2. In the Aging Time field, enter a time in seconds that will be used to calculate an aging time. The aging time will be between the value that you entered and twice that value minus 1. If you entered 200 seconds, the aging time is between 200 and 399 seconds. 

Step 3. Click Apply to save your configuration.
