Multicast MAC Group Address Configuration on Sx500 Series Stackable Switches

Objectives

The switch forwards incoming multicast traffic based on the multicast group information. This information is from the IGMP/MLD packets received and is stored in the Multicast Forwarding Database (MFDB). When a frame is received from a VLAN that is configured to forward multicast streams, the frame is forwarded to all ports that are members of the MAC group address.

The MAC Group Address page is used to create new MAC group addresses and is used to assign ports to MAC group addresses.

This article explains how to configure MAC Group Address on the Sx500 Series Stackable Switches.

MAC Group Address

Filter MAC Group Address Table

Step 1. Log in to the Switch Configuration Utility and choose Multicast > MAC Group Address. The MAC Group Address page opens:

Step 2. Check VLAN ID.

Step 3. Enter the desired VLAN that is to be displayed in the VLAN ID equals to field.

Step 4. Check MAC Group Address.

Step 5. Enter the desired multicast MAC group address in the MAC Group Address equals to field.

Step 6. Click Go to filter out results in the MAC Group Address Table that have the specified VLAN ID and MAC Group Address.

Step 7. (Optional) Click Clear Filter to remove the filter.

Add MAC Group Address

Step 1. Click Add to add a static MAC Group Address. The Add MAC Group Address window appears.

Step 2. Enter the VLAN ID for the new multicast group.

Step 3. Enter the MAC address of the new multicast group.

Step 4. Click Apply.

Interface Membership

Step 1. Check the box that corresponds to the desired MAC Group Address.

Step 2. Click Details... to configure the registration for the interfaces within the group. The MAC Group Address Settings window appears.

Step 3. From the Interface Type drop-down list choose the interface you want to configure.

Step 4. Click Go.

Step 5. Click the radio button that corresponds to the desired way in which each port or LAG is associated with the multicast group.

• Static — The interface is attached to the multicast group as a static member.

• Dynamic — The interface was added to the multicast group as a result of IGMP/MLD snooping.

• Forbidden — The interface is not allowed to join the multicast group on the specified VLAN.

• None — The interface is not a current member of the multicast group on the specified VLAN.

Step 6. Click Apply.
