Enable Multicast Passthru on SPA8000 Analog Telephone Adapter

Objective

Multicast traffic is traffic that is only sent to certain destinations in a single transmission, as opposed to broadcast where packets are sent to every available destination. The multicast passthru feature enables the SPA8000 to forward IP multicast packets to the appropriate PC. This article describes how to enable Multicast passthru on SPA8000.

Multicast Passthru

Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Advanced > Network > Application. The Application page opens:

Step 2. Choose an option from the Multicast Passthru drop-down list under the Miscellaneous Settings area:

  • Disabled — Disables the Multicast Passthru. The device is not able to send and receive multicast traffic.
  • Inbound Only — Only incoming multicast traffic from the Internet is allowed.
  • Outbound Only — Only outgoing multicast traffic from the device to the Internet is allowed.
  • Inbound and Outbound — Both incoming and outgoing multicast traffic is allowed.

Step 3. Click Submit All Changes to save the configuration.
