View Authenticated Clients in Captive Portal on WAP321 Access Points

Objective

The captive portal allows you to block clients connected to the WAP network. Clients see a special web page for authentication purposes before they are allowed to use the Internet normally. Captive Portal verification is for both guests and authenticated users. Captive portal makes use of the web browser and turns it into an authentication device. Captive portals are used at many Wi-Fi hotspots to charge users to get access to the Internet.

This article provides details about the authenticated clients on the Captive Portal instances of the WAP321 access point.

Captive Portal Groups

Step 1. Log in to the Access Point Configuration Utility and choose Captive Portal > Authentication Clients. The Authenticated Clients page opens:

In the Authenticated Clients, these fields are displayed:

• Total Number of Authenticated Clients — Displays the number of authenticated clients.

• MAC Address — Displays the MAC address of the authenticated clients.

• IP Address — Displays the IP address of the authenticated client.

• User Name — Displays the Captive Portal user name of the authentication clients.

• Protocol — Displays the protocol chosen by the user to establish a connection (HTTP or HTTPS).

– HTTP — It is a protocol that allows the transfer of data across the Internet

– HTTPS — It is a protocol that allows the secure transfer of data across the Internet

• Verification — Displays the method in which the client used to authenticate on the Captive Portal. The possible values are:

– Guest — The user does not need authentication.

– Local — The WAP321 device uses a local database to authenticate the client.

– Radius — The WAP321 device uses a remote RADIUS to authenticate clients.

• VAP ID — Displays the Virtual Access Point to which the client is associated.

• Radio ID — Displays the identification number of the radio. The WAP321 always displays Radio 1.

• Captive Portal ID — Displays the instance of the Captive Portal to which the client is associated.

• Session Timeout — Displays the amount of time that has passed since the user last authenticated on the Captive Portal.

• Away Timeout — Displays the time that has passed since the user last performed an action on the access point.

• Initial URL Request — Displays the URL that the user used to access the Captive Portal initially.

• Received Packets — Displays the quantity of IP packets the WAP321 received from the user station.

• Transmitted Packets — Displays the quantity of IP packets in the user station transmitted from the WAP321.

• Received Bytes — Displays the quantity of bytes the WAP321 received from the user station.

• Transmitted Bytes — Displays the quantity of bytes in the user station transmitted from the WAP321.
