Configuration of a WAP Cluster with WAP321

Objective

Wireless Access Points (WAPs) are devices that allow for a wireless device to connect to a hard wired network via Wi-Fi. The WAP321 allows for single point set up for simple deployment of a WAP. Typically, a WAP connects to a router and is a node on a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). Clustering is when multiple WAPs are joined on the same network. Each additional WAP installed on the network strengthens the wireless signal in areas that previously had weak to no signal. The WAP acts as a transmitter and receiver of WLAN radio signals, providing a larger wireless range as well as the ability to support more clients on a network.

This objective of this article is to detail the configuration and setup of a WAP321 Cluster using the WAP Configuration Utility.

WAP Cluster Configuration

Step 1. Log in to the WAP Configuration Utility and choose Single Point Setup. The Single Point Setup page opens:

Note: (optional) In the Location field, users can enter a location for the WAP. This setting is only an identifier for the WAP and has no effect on the cluster itself.

Step 2. From the Access Points page click the Enable Single Point Setup and enter a Cluster Name.

Step 3. In the Clustering IP Version field, select either IPv6 or IPv4.

• IPv4 — Internet Protocol version 4 is currently the most commonly used version. Selecting this option enables the cluster to service IPv4 addresses, allowing more devices to exist on a single subnet. IPv4 is the default option for this field.

• IPv6 — Internet Protocol version 6 is the latest version that devices are currently transitioning to. Selecting this option enables the cluster to service IPv6 addresses, allowing more devices to exist on a single subnet.

Step 4. Refresh the WAP Configuration Utility page and the WAPs should now be clustered within the same network.

Note: To add more access points to an existing cluster, follow these steps, but enter the Cluster Name of the existing cluster
