Bonjour is a service discovery protocol that enables automatic discovery of computers, devices, and services on LAN with the use of multicast Domain Name System (mDNS). Bonjour can be enabled on the WAP551 and WAP561 so that all the devices on the same network can know the existence of the WAP551 and WAP561.
Any Bonjour enabled client can discover a Bonjour enabled device and gain access to the management interface without any prior configuration. A client can use an installed Internet explorer plug-in to discover the WAP device. In Apple products, Bonjour is present in the operating system. Bonjour helps to setup a network without any configuration.
This article explains how to enable Bonjour on the WAP551 and WAP561 Access Points (AP).
• WAP551
• WAP561
• v1.0.4.2
The access point advertises these service types when Bonjour is enabled.
• Cisco-specific device description (csco-sb) — Enables the clients to discover Cisco AP and other products deployed in small business networks.
• Management user interfaces — Identifies the management interfaces available on the AP (HTTP, Telnet, SSH, and SNMP). When a Bonjour-enabled access point is attached to a network, any Bonjour client can discover and get access to the management interface without prior configuration.
Follow the steps given below to enable the AP to be discovered through Bonjour.
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility to choose Administration > Discovery - Bonjour. The Discovery - Bonjour page opens:
Step 2. Check the Enable check box to enable Bonjour on the access point.
