Single Point Setup Configuration on WAP551 and WAP561 Access Points

Objective

The Single Point Setup is used to control the wireless service across multiple devices. It is used to create a cluster of wireless devices, once the cluster is created then other wireless access points can join the cluster. After the cluster is completed all the devices share their information such as VAP settings, QoS and radio parameters to reduce interference and maximize the bandwidth of the network. Only one single point setup can be created for each radio interface in the device.

This article shows how to configure single point setup on the WAP551 and WAP561 access points.

Note: The following rules are to be followed before the configuration:

• A cluster can be created only among the same model of WAP devices. WAP551 and WAP561 cannot form cluster with each other.

• The WAP devices must be in the same network with different subnets and it should use the same type of IP addressing. IPv6 and IPv4 configured devices cannot form a cluster.

Single Point Setup

Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Single Point Setup > Access Points. The Access Points page opens:

Step 2. (Optional) To identify the location of the device, enter the current location of the AP in the Location field.

Step 3. Enter the name of the cluster in  the Cluster Name field.

Note: The cluster name should be unique on the devices joining the cluster and also it should be unique for each single point setup.

Step 4. Click the desired radio button from the Clustering IP Version field. The available options are:

• IPv4 — The cluster uses IPv4 address.

• IPv6 — The cluster uses IPv6 address.

Step 5. Click Enable Single Point Setup to enable the single point setup.

The Table displays the Locations, MAC Addresses, and IP Addresses of the access points in the cluster.

Step 6. (Optional) to disable the single point setup, click Disable Single Point Setup.
