Introduction
This document describes how to configure a QLE8262 Converged Network Adapter (CNA) for Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE).
Prerequisites
Requirements
Cisco recommends that you have knowledge of these topics:
- FCoE
- Workstation and how to get console access to the workstation
Components Used
This document is not restricted to specific software and hardware versions.
The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.
Host does Not Log into Fabric and Ethanalyzer Shows No VLAN REQUEST from Host
Example of the correct flow:
2013-12-05 13:23:57.876499 00:00:c9:e6:88:2f -> 00:2a:6a:5e:7c:87 FIP Keep-Alive
2013-12-05 13:23:57.956581 00:21:5e:e3:31:f5 -> 01:10:18:01:00:02 FIP VLAN Request
2013-12-05 13:23:57.957731 00:2a:6a:5e:7c:87 -> 00:21:5e:e3:31:f5 FIP VLAN Response
2013-12-05 13:23:57.957792 00:21:5e:e3:31:f5 -> 01:10:18:01:00:02 FIP Solicitation
2013-12-05 13:23:57.959224 00:2a:6a:5e:7c:87 -> 00:21:5e:e3:31:f5 FIP Advertisement
Note: The bold line here is missing from the host, so the VLAN response from the switch does not occur either.
Solution
QLOGIC Adapter was Not Configured for FCoE
The QLogic QLE8262 is a CNA that has separate functions for Ethernet and FCoE support. In order to enable FCoE support, enter the BIOS configuration utility.
Press CTRL+Q during the Power-On-Self-Test (POST) of the host server and you shall see the screen as shown in the image.
Note: Ensure that Type FCOE is configured as shown in this example.
If FCoE is not configured, then it appears as None under the Type column, as seen in this example.
In order to move to this field, use Arrow Keys and then click Enter key in order to change this from None to FCoE.
