Software
Segment Routing Data Plane Monitoring
Unreported traffic drops in MPLS networks could be difficult to detect and isolate. They can be caused by user configuration, out-of-sync neighbors, or incorrect data-plane programming. Segment Routing Data Plane Monitoring (SR DPM) provides a scalable solution to address data-plane consistency verification and detection of unreported traffic drops. SR DPM validates the actual data plane status of all FIB entries associated with SR IGP prefix SIDs. SR DPM uses existing MPLS OAM tools and leverages SR forwarding principles to enforce test traffic paths.
SR-TE: Performance Measurement for Segment Routing Policies
This feature introduces support for Segment Routing (SR) policy end-to-end delay measurement.
Network performance data such as packet loss, delay and delay variation, and bandwidth utilization is a critical measure for Traffic Engineering (TE). This data provides service providers the characteristics of their networks for performance evaluation that is required to ensure the Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The performance measurement and delay variation feature allows you to measure those metrics and advertise them through IGP extensions as extended TE metrics.
Segment Routing On-Demand Next Hop for EVPN-VPWS with Multi-Homing
Segment Routing On-Demand Next Hop (SR-ODN) allows a service head-end router to automatically instantiate an SR policy to a BGP next-hop when required (on-demand). SR-ODN provides per-destination steering behaviors where a prefix, a set of prefixes, or all prefixes from a service can be associated with a desired underlay SLA. The functionality applies equally to single-domain and multi-domain networks.
An on-demand SR policy is created dynamically for BGP global or VPN (service) routes. This release introduces SR-ODN support for EVPN-VPWS services with multi-homing configurations.
Segment Routing On-Demand Next Hop for EVPN
Segment Routing On-Demand Next Hop (SR-ODN) allows a service head-end router to automatically instantiate an SR policy to a BGP next-hop when required (on-demand). SR-ODN provides per-destination steering behaviors where a prefix, a set of prefixes, or all prefixes from a service can be associated with a desired underlay SLA. The functionality applies equally to single-domain and multi-domain networks.
An on-demand SR policy is created dynamically for BGP global or VPN (service) routes. This release introduces SR-ODN support for EVPN services with either single-homing or multi-homing configurations.
OSPF Segment Routing Flexible Algorithm
This release introduces OSPF extensions to support Segment Routing Flexible Algorithm.
Segment Routing Flexible Algorithm allows operators to customize IGP shortest path computation according to their own needs. An operator can assign custom SR prefix-SIDs to realize forwarding beyond link-cost-based SPF. As a result, Flexible Algorithm provides a traffic engineered path automatically computed by the IGP to any destination reachable by the IGP.
The SR architecture associates prefix-SIDs to an algorithm which defines how the path is computed. Flexible Algorithm allows for user-defined algorithms where the IGP computes paths based on a user-defined combination of metric type and constraint.
TI-LFA and Microloop Avoidance for IS-IS SR Flexible Algorithm
IS-IS Segment Routing Flexible Algorithm now supports Topology-Independent Loop Free Alternate (TI-LFA) and Microloop Avoidance paths.
TI-LFA backup paths and Microloop Avoidance paths for particular Flexible Algorithm are computed using the same constraints as the calculation of the primary paths for such Flexible Algorithm. These paths use Prefix-SIDs advertised specifically for such Flexible Algorithm in order to enforce a backup or microloop avoidance path.
Segment Routing Anycast SID-Aware Path Computation
An Anycast SID is a type of prefix SID that identifies a set of nodes and is configured with n-flag clear. The set of nodes (Anycast group) is configured to advertise a shared prefix address and prefix SID. Anycast routing enables the steering of traffic toward multiple advertising nodes, providing load-balancing and redundancy. Packets addressed to an Anycast address are forwarded to the topologically nearest nodes.
Segment Routing Tree-SID
Tree Segment Identifier (TreeSID) is a tree-building solution that uses a controller (SR-PCE using PCEP) to calculate the point-to-multipoint (P2MP) tree using SR policies. TreeSID uses a single MPLS label for building a multicast replication tree in an SR network. TreeSID does not require multicast control protocols such as RSVP, mLDP, and PIM.
A P2MP SR policy provides an SR-based TE solution for transporting multicast traffic. It works on existing data-plane (MPLS and IP) and supports TE capabilities and single/multi routing domains. At each node of the tree, the forwarding state is represented by the same segment (using a global TreeSID allocated from the SRLB). P2MP SR policy supports fast protection and prevents transient loop/loss when updating the path of a P2MP SR policy.
Segment Routing IS-IS Flexible Algorithm Prefix-SID Redistribution
Previously, prefix redistribution from IS-IS to another IS-IS instance or protocol was limited to SR algorithm 0 (regular SPF) prefix SIDs; SR algorithm 1 (Strict SPF) and SR algorithms 128-255 (Flexible Algorithm) prefix SIDs were not redistributed along with the prefix. The Segment Routing IS-IS Flexible Algorithm Prefix SID Redistribution feature allows redistribution of strict and flexible algorithms prefix SIDs from IS-IS to another IS-IS instance or protocols. This feature is enabled automatically when you configure redistribution of IS-IS Routes with strict or Flexible Algorithm SIDs.
Service Path Preference on Cisco ASR 9000 4th Generation Ethernet line cards
The Service Path Preference feature (SPP) feature is now supported on the Cisco ASR 9000 4th Generation Ethernet line cards.
SR-TE Affinity Maps Enhancements
SR-TE Affinity Maps provides a simplified and more flexible means of configuring link attributes and path affinities to compute paths for SR-TE policies. SR-TE Affinity Maps lets you assign, or map, color names for affinity and attribute-flag attributes instead of 32-bit hexadecimal numbers. This enhancement increases the number of color names you can assign on the head-end router from 32 to 256.
See Named Interface Link Admin Groups and SR-TE Affinity Maps .
IS-IS Restart Signaling Support
The IS-IS Restart Signaling feature provides a mechanism for a restarting router to signal to its neighbor that it is restarting. This feature allows the neighboring routers of a restarting router to reestablish their adjacencies without any disruption.
The restarting router sends Suppress adjacency advertisement (SA) towards the neighbour. Intermediate-to-Intermediate Hello (IIH) messages are sent to its neighbor to suppress the advertisement of the adjacency until the router is able to propagate newer versions of LSPs. The neighbor continues to suppress the advertisement of adjacency until the SA bit clear message is received.
The ISIS Restart Signaling Support conforms to the specifications detailed in RFC 5306.
Dynamic LMP
The Dynamic Link Management Protocol (LMP) function validates LMP configuration consistency across the head-end and tail-end UNIs. Examples:
-
One end of a TE link is configured as an unnumbered interface, and the other end is configured with an IP address.
-
When configuring an unnumbered neighbor interface, entering the wrong neighbor interface ID.
Also, support for additional LSP encoding and corresponding switching types is added.
See GMPLS UNI Use Case.
Commands introduced and modified:
Reverse Metric Support
The Reverse Metric feature allows you to move the traffic either from a point-to-point or multi-access LAN interface during network maintenance or other operational requirements. You can enable this feature using higher reverse metric value toward the signaling IS-IS router. The IS-IS router advertises reverse metric value in an IS-IS Hello (IIH) message to an adjacent node on a point-to-point or multi-access LAN link. This allows you to provision reverse metric value on a single node and shift the traffic from that link to alternate and viable paths. This feature allows you to move traffic in both forward and backward directions. This feature accepts only one reverse metric TLV per IS-IS Hello message.
IS-IS BFD-Enabled TLV
The IS-IS BFD-Enabled TLV feature allows you to add a BFD TLV into IS-IS Hello (IIH) message to establish a BFD session before IS-IS adjacency is established. This feature provides a mechanism where you can define a TLV that allows for proper response to the detection of all forwarding failures where you use BFD with IS-IS.
BGP Flowspec Support for 6PE Packets
The BGP FlowSpec with 6PE feature for 6PE Packets allows you to send traffic from the IPv6 Provider Edge (6PE) router over MPLS IPv6 core infrastructure for IPv6 transport. Legacy devices in a network that do not support dual-stack can use 6PE to transport IPv6 packets over MPLS.
UDP Decapsulation of MPLS-Over-UDP Traffic
When a MAN border router sends UDP-encapsulated MPLS traffic to a WAN edge (Cisco ASR 9000 Series) router, this feature removes the UDP header. Then, the MPLS traffic is sent towards the destination.
See UDP Decapsulation of MPLS-Over-UDP Traffic.
The command, hw-module l3 feature mpls-over-udp-decap enable is introduced.
BGP Multiple Sourced or Redistributed Paths
The BGP Multiple Sourced or Redistributed Paths feature allows BGP to receive multiple paths for each prefix that is redistributed or locally sourced. These multipaths can be used for add-path functionality advertisement. This feature allows the Virtual Topology System (VTS) to advertise the routes along with its IP address even when the Virtual Traffic Forwarder (VTF) resides outside the VTS controller. This enables the VTS customers to use multipath load-balancing capabilities across multiple VTFs.
OpFlex on Cisco IOS XR 64-bit Operating System
The OpFlex feature is now supported on the Cisco IOS XR 64-bit operating system.
See OpFlex.
Pseudowire Headend on Cisco ASR 9000 4th Generation Ethernet line cards

The Cisco ASR 9000 4th Generation QSFP28 based dense 100GE line cards supports nV system with the Cisco IOS XR 64-bit operating system.
See the chapter Configuring the Satellite Network Virtualization (nV) System.
BGP Flow Specification support on nV Satellite
The nVsatellite access interfaces support the BGP Flow Specification feature. This feature allows you to rapidly deploy and propagate filtering and policing functionality among a large number of BGP peer routers to mitigate the effects of a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack over your network.
Service-Information Attribute Value Pair for Gy Interface
BNG introduces the inclusion of Service-Information Attribute Value Pair (AVP) for Gy interface. This feature provides the capability to include the DIAMETER Attribute list over Gy Interface for BNG Deployment with On-Line Charging Services.
Lawful Intercept Overlapping Taps
From Cisco IOS XR Software Release 7.0.1 and later, the Lawful Intercept overlapping tap functionality is available on Cisco ASR 9000 4th Generation QSFP28 based dense 100GE line cards (A9K-8X100GE-X-TR, A9K-16X100GE-TR, A9K-32X100GE-TR and A99-16x100-X-SE) as well.
See Overlapping Taps.
Automatic Generation of SSH Host-Key Pairs
This feature brings in the functionality of automatically generating the SSH host-key pairs for the DSA, ECDSA (such as ecdsa-nistp256 , ecdsa-nistp384 , and ecdsa-nistp521 ) and RSA algorithms. This in turn eliminates the need for explicitly generating each SSH host-key pair after the router boots up. Because the keys are already present in the system, the SSH client can establish connection with the SSH server soon after the router boots up with the basic SSH configuration. This is useful especially during zero touch provisioning (ZTP) and Golden ISO boot up scenarios.
See Automatic Generation of SSH Host-Key Pairs.
The command, ssh server algorithms host-key is introduced.
SSH Configuration Option to Restrict Cipher Public Key and HMAC Algorithm
The Cisco IOS XR software provides a new configuration option to control the key algorithms to be negotiated with the peer while establishing an SSH connection with the router. With this feature, you can enable the insecure SSH algorithms on the SSH server, which are otherwise disabled by default. A new configuration option is also available to restrict the SSH client from choosing the HMAC, or hash-based message authentication codes algorithm while connecting to the SSH server on the router. You can also configure a list of ciphers as the default cipher list, thereby having the flexibility to enable or disable any particular cipher.
See the SSH Configuration Option to Restrict Cipher Public Key and HMAC Algorithm.
Commands introduced:
1 PPS output Port Enabled on a RSP
1 Pulse Per Second (1PPS) output is supported on Cisco ASR 9000 Series Routers.
The RSP and RP cards on the ASR 9000 Routers have the 1PPS (input and output) ports that are used to send or receive 1 PPS clock signals for timing synchronization. The 1PPS measurement is useful for measuring timing accuracy.
The command, gps-output is introduced.
Support for hw-module shut command in configuration mode
From this release onwards, the hw-module shut and hw-module unshut commands are supported in the configuration mode.
This facilitates in automating the network hardware replacement procedure.
Earlier, the hw-module shut command was supported in admin mode.
SSH and SFTP in Baseline Cisco IOS XR Software Image
From Cisco IOS XR Software Release 7.0.1 and later, the management plane and control plane components that were part of the Cisco IOS XR security package (k9sec package) are moved to the base Cisco IOS XR software image. These include SSH, SCP, SFTP and IPSec control plane. This segreg ation of package components makes the software more modular. It also gives you the flexibility of including or excluding the security package as per your requirements. The new segregation of package components is applicable for both 32 bit and 64 bit IOS XR images.
BITS-out on Standby RSP and RP
The Building Integrated Timing Supply (BITS) output from a standby RSP and RP can be used to connect network devices in the downstream.
The router can send out the BITS signal from the standby RSP’s BITS port to connect network device in the downstream. However, BITS-in is locked onto active RSP or RP only.
The command, port-parameters is introduced.
ISSU Support on A9K-12X100GE and A9K-4X100GE Line Cards
From this release onwards, ISSU is supported on A9K-12X100GE and A9K-4X100GE line cards.
Multicast Route Scale Enhancement
From this release, the Cisco ASR 9000 4th Generation Ethernet line cards supports 3,50,000 native IPv4 multicast routes on IOS XR 64-bit OS.
Ltrace Information Stored in Persistent Storage
The ltrace information is now stored in a persistence storage. This helps to store historic ltraces information in the memory. This trace information is used to augment diagnosis of platform issues.
Prior to this release, ltrace information was stored in a shared memory. The shared memory has limited buffer size. When the buffer was full, the historic data was lost.
To view the ltrace information use the show <component> trace file <filename> original location command.
MAP-T without Service Cards Support on Cisco IOS XR 64-bit
The Mapping of Address and Port-Translation Mode (MAP-T) CGN solution without service cards (VSM/ISM) is supported on Cisco IOS XR 64 bit operating system.
The objective of this feature is to ensure that the MAP-T CGN solution can be implemented without service cards (VSM/ISM). With this feature, the CGN application directly interacts with the line cards to configure the MAP-T parameters and eliminates the dependency on the service cards.
Advance Power Management
Advanced Power Management (APM) feature enables powering down the unused line card slices.
This feature helps to manage power consumption, as the slices that do not have any services enabled are power down. Later these slices can be powered when a new service is enabled on them.
See Advanced Power Management.
The command, hw-module location reload is introduced.
Erase Disk Memory of RSPs and Line Cards
This feature helps in deleting the data on a disk memory of RSPs and line cards. The RSPs and line cards should be powered off after the clean up.
The feature is used in the event of a return material authorization (RMA) of a card.
Note |
Do not reload the card or the router until the card is removed from the slot. Reloading the card or the router leads to reboot and the disk will be loaded with the data that was erased. |
See Erase Disk Memory.
The command, zapdisk start location is introduced.
Type 6 Password Encryption
Type 6 password encryption securely stores plain text key strings for authenticating BGP, IP SLA, IS-IS, OSPF, and RSVP sessions.
See Implementing Type 6 Password Encryption.
Commands introduced or modified:
SSHv2 Support for CBC Mode Ciphers
SSHv2 server and client connections support enabling of CBC mode ciphers 3DES-CBC and AES-CBC at the same time. These ciphers are disabled by default.
IOS XR Embedded Packet Tracer
Embedded Packet Tracer enables you to monitor the packet information through the router, find where packets have dropped or last seen and thus helps you to efficiently troubleshoot traffic drops.
Enhancements to Zero Touch Provisioning
This release has the following enhancements to the Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP) feature:
-
You can perform these additional operations using Zero Touch Provisioning:
-
Enable or disable ZTP at boot using CLI (ztp enable, ztp disable).
-
Customize the ZTP configurable options using the configuration file (
ztp.ini
). -
View the ZTP status as a Progress Bar on a console.
-
-
ZTP follows a default sequential flow as defined in the
ztp.ini
file. ZTP first sends IPv4 DHCP request on all the management ports. In case there is a failure, then ZTP sends IPv6 DHCP request on all the management ports. Similarly, the same order is followed on all the data ports.
See Customize the ZTP Configurable Options.
Commands introduced:

OpenConfig Data Models for Network Programmability
The OpenConfig (OC) data models are defined by the OC community to create configuration and retreive operational state data of the network. This release supports:
-
OC-LLDP data model for event-driven telemetry.
-
OC-Interfaces-Aggregate data model to manage aggregated interfaces. This model augments the existing
oc-interfaces
data model. -
OC-Abstract Forwarding Table (oc-aft) model defined by the OC community collects statistics about traffic in a network. The statistics are extracted for:
-
Event-driven telemetry push mode
-
MPLS labels only (per IP-prefix stats is not supported)
-
Non-recursive MPLS labels (filter out BGP, VPN labels)
-
Monitor MLDP Events for Telemetry using NETCONF
Event-driven telemetry supports monitoring Multicast Label Distribution Protocol (MLDP) using NETCONF and YANG data model. If there is a state change in MLDP, the router streams data about flow statistics for multicast labels, and control plane statistics for mLDP.
gRPC Network Operations Interface
gRPC Network Operations Interface (gNOI) defines a set of gRPC-based microservices for executing operational commands on network devices. Extensible Manageability Services (EMS) gNOI is the Cisco IOS XR implementation of gNOI. gNOI uses gRPC as the transport protocol and the configuration is same as that of gRPC. These gNOI RPCs are supported:
-
Reboot
-
RebootStatus
-
SetPackage
-
File Get
-
File Remove
Hardware
This release introduces following hardware:
-
V02 version of A9K-MPA-1X200GE—ASR 9000 1-port 200-Gigabit Ethernet Modular Port Adapter is introduced. V02 version of CFP2-DCO optical module is introduced. V02 version of the optical module supports Staircase FEC. Staircase FEC is an industry standard that enables high-speed optical communications. Version ID information can be obtained from
show inventory
command output. Forward error correction (FEC) is a digital signal processing technique used to enhance data reliability. FEC introduces redundant data, called error correcting code, prior to data transmission or storage. It provides the receiver with the ability to correct errors without a reverse channel to request the retransmission of data.

Serial Interfaces Out of Order in show ipv4 interface brief or show ipv6 interface briefcommand—The show ip interface brief command might display interfaces out of order if different types of serialization are used on the SPA cards.
The serial interfaces are displayed in the show ip interface brief command output in the order shown in the example below:
The ordering is based on:
-
Slot
-
SPA
-
Type
-
T3
-
T3/T1
-
vt15-T1
-
multilink
This may be different from the usual order (as the interfaces appear out of order) for the user who is accustomed to IOS.
Example output:
With multiple cards:
Serial0/2/0/1/1/1:0 (t3/t1) Serial0/2/0/1/2/1:0 Serial0/2/0/1/3/1:0 Serial0/2/0/1/4/1:0 Serial0/2/0/1/5/1:0 Serial0/2/0/1/6/1:0 Serial0/2/0/1/7/1:0 Serial0/2/0/1/8/1:0 Serial0/2/0/1/9/1:0 Serial0/2/0/1/10/1:0 Serial0/2/0/1/11/1:0 Serial0/2/0/1/12/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/1/1/1:0 (vt15) Serial0/2/0/0/2/1/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/3/1/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/4/1/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/5/1/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/6/1/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/7/1/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/8/1/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/9/1/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/10/1/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/11/1/1:0 Serial0/2/0/0/12/1/1:0 Multilink 0/2/0/0/1 Serial0/2/1/0/1 (t3) Serial0/2/1/1/1/1:0 (t3/t1) Serial0/2/1/1/2/1:0 Serial0/2/1/1/3/1:0 Serial0/2/1/1/4/1:0 Serial0/2/1/1/5/1:0 Serial0/2/1/1/6/1:0 Serial0/2/1/1/7/1:0 Serial0/2/1/1/8/1:0 Serial0/2/1/1/9/1:0 Serial0/2/1/1/10/1:0 Serial0/2/1/1/11/1:0 Serial0/2/1/1/12/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/2/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/3/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/4/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/5/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/6/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/7/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/8/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/9/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/10/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/11/1:0 Serial0/6/0/1/12/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/1/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/2/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/3/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/4/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/5/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/6/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/7/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/8/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/9/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/10/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/11/1/1:0 Serial0/6/0/0/12/1/1:0 Multilink 0/6/0/0/1 Serial0/6/1/0/1 Serial0/6/1/1/1/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/2/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/3/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/4/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/5/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/6/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/7/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/8/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/9/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/10/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/11/1:0 Serial0/6/1/1/12/1:0

Supported Transceiver Modules
To determine the transceivers that Cisco hardware device supports, refer to the Transceiver Module Group (TMG) Compatibility Matrix tool.
Supported Modular Port Adapters
For the compatibility details of Modular Port Adapters (MPAs) on the line cards, see the datasheet of that specific line card.
Upgrading Cisco IOS XR Software
Cisco IOS XR Software is installed and activated from modular packages, allowing specific features or software patches to be installed, upgraded, or downgraded without affecting unrelated processes. Software packages can be upgraded or downgraded on all supported card types, or on a single card (node).
Software packages are installed from Route Processor Module (RPM) files that contain one or more software components.
The upgrade document is available along with the software images.

Before starting the software upgrade, use the show install health command in the admin mode. This command validates if the statuses of all relevant parameters of the system are ready for the software upgrade without interrupting the system.
Note |
If you use a TAR package to upgrade from a Cisco IOS XR release prior to 7.x, the output of the show install health command in admin mode displays the following error messages:
You can ignore these messages and proceed with the installation operation. |
Cisco Software Manager (CSM) application provides an intuitive user interface to manage Cisco IOS XR installations, with pre-installation and post-installation checks and reports. CSM helps manage the process of software maintenance upgrades (SMUs) and service packs (SPs) on devices that run the Cisco IOS XR Software.
For information on using CSM, see Installation Guide for Cisco Software Manager Server.
Note |
If you have mLACP/ICCP Redundancy Model setup, ensure that you upgrade the active and standby nodes to the same IOS XR version while upgrading to a newer version of the ASR 9000 router. |
Production Software Maintenance Updates (SMUs)
A production SMU is a SMU that is formally requested, developed, tested, and released. Production SMUs are intended for use in a live network environment and are formally supported by the Cisco TAC and the relevant development teams. Software bugs identified through software recommendations or Bug Search Tools are not a basis for production SMU requests.
For information on production SMU types, refer the Production SMU Types section of the IOS XR Software Maintenance Updates (SMUs) guide.

Resolving Upgrade File Issues
Note |
In some very rare cases inconsistencies in the content of the internal configuration files can appear. In such situations, to avoid configuration loss during upgrade, the following steps can be optionally done before activating packages: |
-
Clear the NVGEN cache:
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router# run nvgen -F 1
-
Create a dummy config commit:
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router# config RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router(config)# hostname <hostname> RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:rotuer(config)# commit RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router(config)# end
-
Force a commit update by using the reload command. Press n when the confirmation prompt appears:
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router# reload Updating Commit Database. Please wait...[OK] Proceed with reload? [confirm]
-
Press n
In some cases other activity may preclude a reload. The following message may display:
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router# reload Preparing system for backup. This may take a few minutes ............System configuration backup in progress [Retry later]
If you receive this message wait and then retry the command after some time.
