Disable Notifications for Dynamic Programming of Subscriber Gateway Address |
This feature allows you to disable the notifications exchanged internally between software components when the user plane (UP) of a cloud-native BNG (cnBNG) network programs the gateway address for its subscriber. It prevents excessive notifications when many active subscribers are on the UP, thus reducing the overhead on UP resources. The feature introduces the following command: |
This feature enables the cloud native BNG user plane to become an L2TP access concentrator (LAC), allowing you to tunnel point-to-point frames between the remote system or LAC client and an LNS located at a wholesaler. This functionality provides highly flexible deployments options to suit different customer use-cases and needs. To enable this feature, use the l2tp enable command. |

This feature enables cloud native BNG (cnBNG) to act as an L2TP Network Server (LNS) located at the wholesaler and allows you to terminate the tunnel or the subscriber sessions initiated by the LAC client. The cnBNG LNS solution offers control and user plane separation (CUPS) and cloud-native advantages for next-generation subscriber services in operator networks where subscribers connect directly to a retailer. To enable this feature, use the lns enable command. |

End-to-End Flow Control Between User Plane and Control Plane |
In cloud native BNG (cnBNG) networks, this feature allows you to define the rate at which the user plane (UP) sends messages, such as control packets and data packet notifications, to the control plane (CP). The feature regulates the CP ingress traffic flow at the source-of-origin (UP), helping avoid network congestion and packet loss. The feature introduces these commands:

Establishing Cloud Native BNG Sessions over Pseudowire Headend (PWHE) |
This feature establishes Cloud Native BNG subscriber sessions on PWHE interfaces. PWHE enables an easy and scalable mechanism for tunneling cnBNG traffic into a common IP, MPLS, or L2 network. |
Increased Granularity for Cloud Native BNG Traffic Management with Hierarchical QoS (H-QOS) |
This feature allows you to specify QoS behavior at multiple policy levels for Internet Protocol over Ethernet (IPoE), Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE), PPP Termination and Aggregation (PTA), and LNS (L2TP Network Server) sessions and provides a high degree of granularity in traffic management. Use the first level of the traffic policy, the parent traffic policy, to control the traffic at the main interface or sub-interface level. Use the second level, the child traffic policy, for additional control over a specific traffic stream or class. |
Multiple Framed IPv4 and IPv6 Routes for Customer PremisesEquipment (CPE) |
You can configure multiple framed routes for IPv4 and IPv6 traffic across CPE. This functionality allows you to route multiple customer networks through a single customer broadband connection, thus enabling the LAN network subscriber to use a different subnet from WAN. |

Calculate Bit Error Rate Using Cyclic Redundancy Check |
To calculate Bit Error Rate (BER), you can now use the Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) error-detecting code. CRC detects BERs in a network faster, allowing you to quickly bring the error link down and take timely corrective action. This feature introduces the following commands:

L2VPN and Ethernet Services |

This feature enables you to seamlessly migrate the PE nodes from VPWS to EVPN-VPWS service without disruption in traffic. Such a migration offers your service providers the option to use VPWS or EVPN-VPWS services on PE nodes This feature introduces the vpws-seamless-integration command. |

Routing |
|
This feature gives you the flexibility to select unequal cost multipath (UCMP) load-balancing based on the interior gateway protocol (IGP) route metric. The IGP route metric is the sum of the metrics of all the links that belong to a path, and this feature selects the paths with lower IGP route metrics as multipath. Thus, this functionality enables the best-path selection process for multipath load-balancing. In earlier releases, you could select BGP UCMP only based on age order, where the oldest path took precedence over the newer path. |

Segment Routing |

SR Policy Path Protection |
This feature enables path protection for SR policies. It allows you to configure an SR policy with working (active) and protect (backup) candidate paths pre-programmed in the forwarding. You can monitor these candidate paths using SR Policy Liveness Monitoring probes. When the head-end detects a liveness failure on the working candidate path, it triggers a switchover to the protect candidate path. |
Telemetry |

Telemetry Support for OpenConfig Interfaces, IPv4 and IPv6 Addresses and State |
This feature provides GNMI and GRPC telemetry support for the following openconfig-if-ip.yang sensor paths. Previously, only NETCONF edit-config, get-config and get operations were supported. With this new feature, telemetry polling at a cadence or on-change can be retrieved for IPv4 and IPv6 data.

With this feature, you can configure the list of processes you want to monitor, and receive notifications via event-driven telemetry when the configured process restarts or crashes. This feature introduces the process-state-monitor location command to monitor processes on specific nodes or all nodes. |

Other Important Information

Repetitive Smart Licensing evaluation expired warning messages are displayed on the console every hour, but there is no functionality impact observed on the device. To stop these repetitive messages, you should register the device again with a new registration token.

From IOS XR Release 7.0, 1st and 2nd generation of ASR 9000 line cards are not supported.

From Release 6.0, the onePK toolkit is not supported.

Exceeding Cisco testing—If you intend to test beyond the combined maximum configuration tested and published by Cisco, contact your Cisco Technical Support representative to discuss how to engineer a large-scale configuration for your purpose.

Installing a Line Card—For a fully populated 40-port high density Line Card with cable optics, maintenance time required for card replacement is higher. For more information about Line Card installation and removal, refer to the Cisco ASR 9000 Aggregation Services Router Ethernet Line Card Installation Guide.

Upgrading Cisco IOS XR Software
Cisco IOS XR Software is installed and activated from modular packages, allowing specific features or software patches to be installed, upgraded, or downgraded without affecting unrelated processes. Software packages can be upgraded or downgraded on all supported card types, or on a single card (node).
Software packages are installed from Route Processor Module (RPM) files that contain one or more software components.

If you have mLACP/ICCP Redundancy Model setup, ensure that you upgrade the active and standby nodes to the same IOS XR version while upgrading to a newer version of the ASR 9000 router. |
Production Software Maintenance Updates (SMUs)
A production SMU is a SMU that is formally requested, developed, tested, and released. Production SMUs are intended for use in a live network environment and are formally supported by the Cisco TAC and the relevant development teams. Software bugs identified through software recommendations or Bug Search Tools are not a basis for production SMU requests.

Use user-class Option 'xr-config' Instead Of 'exr-config' To Provision ZTP
In Cisco IOS XR Release 7.3.1 and earlier, the system accepts the device sending user-class = "exr-config"; however starting Cisco IOS XR Release 7.3.2 and later, you must use only user-class = "xr-config".
In Cisco IOS XR Release 7.3.2 and later, use:
