About Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateways

Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateway devices extend the enterprise network to remote workers. Connectivity is as follows:

  • The Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateway CG113-W6 accesses the internet using a wired WAN connection at a remote site.

  • The Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateway CG112-4GW6 accesses the internet using a wired WAN connection at a remote site or using a cellular link. The device supports two SIM cards: one active, and one on standby. If the wired WAN connection fails, the device fails over to the cellular link to ensure internet connectivity.

Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateways provide numerous advantages to the remote worker, including the following:

  • Hardware-based stable connectivity to an enterprise VPN

  • Optimized network performance with Wi-Fi 6

  • Cellular network connectivity, in supporting models, providing a cellular internet connection (with one active and one standby SIM) for uninterrupted internet connectivity

  • Separate service set identifiers (SSIDs) for connecting work and personal devices

Managing Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateways

Use Cisco vManage to configure and manage Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateways. Cisco vManage provides a convenient workflow for configuring Wi-Fi, cellular, VPN, and other functionality. Cisco vManage also provides methods for monitoring device performance.

Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateway Models

The Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateways include the following models:

  • Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateway CG113-W6

    (Includes Wi-Fi connectivity)

  • Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateway CG113-4GW6

    (Includes Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity)

What's New for Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateway Support in Cisco IOS CG 17.9.1a and Cisco vManage Release 20.9.1.1

Cisco IOS CG 17.9.1a and and Cisco vManage Release 20.9.1.1 introduce support for the Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateway Series and provide the following features:

Cellular Connectivity

  • Dual SIM support: Support for two SIM cards. The device supports only one cellular connection at a time

  • Dual SIM failover: Support for failover from one cellular connection to another in case of loss of connectivity to the primary connection, if two SIM cards are installed

  • Auto SIM: Detection of the carrier of an inserted SIM and loading of the appropriate firmware

  • Carrier aggregation: Support for using multiple frequency bands at once

  • Custom APN: Support for configuring a custom access point name (APN) profile

Cisco Catalyst Wireless Gateways do not support IPv6 addressing. Before attempting to deploy the Cisco CG113-4GW6 model, check that it is supported on your service provider's cellular network.

Support for VPN and Corporate Wi-Fi

  • Support for one corporate SSID

  • Support for site-to-site IPsec using the following key exchange methods:

    • Internet key exchange version 2 (IKEv2)

    • IKE phase 1 with advanced encryption standard (AES) 128 and secure hash algorithm (SHA) 1

    • IKE phase 2 with AES 128 and SHA1

    • Diffie-Hellman (DH) 2048-bit modules (group 14)

    • DH 3072-bit modules (group 15)

    • DH 4096-bit modules (group 16)

  • Wireless Dot1.x Radius authentication

  • WLAN security support: WPA2-Enterprise or WPA2 pre-shared key (WPA2-PSK)

Support for Home Wi-Fi

Support for four SSIDs for Home Wi-Fi use.

Support for DHCP

  • Ability to use the device as a DHCP server

  • Ability to use the default DNS server or a custom server

  • Ability to use the default NTP server or a custom server

Support for Security Policy

You can configure security policy actions and rules.

Support for Network Address Translation (NAT) and Port Address Translation (PAT)

You can configure NAT and PAT.
