Configuring SNMP for Cisco Unified Conferencing for TelePresence
Revised: June 22, 2007, OL-11749-01
Topics in this section include:
•How to Configure SNMP Community Strings
•How to Configure SNMP Notification Destinations
Restrictions
•You can use SNMP to monitor only the Cisco Unified Conferencing for TelePresence application.
•Version 1.1 works with SNMP version 1 and version 2.
•Version 1.1 supports the following non-standard MIBs:
–CISCO-CDP-MIB
–HOST-RESOURCE-MIB
–SYS-APPL-MIB, primarily following the sysApplElmtRunTable and sysApplInstallPkgEntry table
Tip You can download the MIB files to import into your network management server or SNMP monitoring package from ftp://ftp-sj.cisco.com/pub/mibs/v2/.
About SNMP
SNMP is used to monitor the Cisco Unified Conferencing for TelePresence application the same way you manage other devices on the network. By using an SNMP management tool and configuring it appropriately, you can obtain network status information and gain access to the Cisco Unified Conferencing for TelePresence system.
Once the non-standard MIBs are in place, the SNMP feature supports all standard MIB II queries and a set of Cisco Unified Conferencing for TelePresence MIB traps. The MIB II queries include information such as the Cisco Unified Conferencing for TelePresence server name, location, and contact name, plus various statistics regarding the network interface.
The Cisco Unified Conferencing for TelePresence system uses traps to report certain events. Table 18-1 describes the conditions that generate Cisco Unified Conferencing for TelePresence traps.
Each major and minor software notification includes an integer alarm code that indicates which software module and server reported the alarm. Each alarm instance typically generates a separate notification; however, one specific incident could trigger multiple types of alarms.
How to Configure SNMP Community Strings
Access privileges for the community string provide security by restricting the ability to alter the Cisco Unified Conferencing for TelePresence system.

How to Configure SNMP Notification Destinations
The system sends a message to the IP address specified in the notification destination whenever a trap or inform condition occurs. A trap reports certain events while an inform condition allows one network management application to send trap information to another.
