These release notes describe open and resolved caveats for Cisco Wireless Control System Navigator maintenance release 1.6.230.0.

Cisco Wireless Control System Navigator is referred to as Cisco WCS Navigator in this document.

Introduction

Cisco WCS Navigator manages multiple Cisco WCSs (running the same release as Cisco WCS Navigator) and provides a unified view of the network. Cisco WCS Navigator uses SOAP/XML over HTTPS to communicate with individual WCSs. Cisco WCS Navigator provides a monitoring and reporting capability across all WCSs. In addition, network-wide searches are available. In Windows and Linux operating systems, Cisco WCS Navigator runs as a service and resumes running after a reboot.

Cisco WCS Navigator delivers an aggregated platform for enhanced scalability, manageability, and visibility of large-scale implementations of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network. This software-based solution gives network administrators easy access to information from multiple, geographically diverse Cisco WCS management platforms. Cisco WCS Navigator supports partitioning of the unified wireless network at the management level.

Cisco WCS Navigator Features

Cisco WCS Navigator has the following features:

•Management of multiple Cisco WCSs

–Supports up to 20 Cisco WCS management platforms

–Management of up to 50,000 Cisco Aironet lightweight access points from a single management console

•A unified view of the network

•Overview and multilevel monitoring of wireless networks

•Ability to run reports for all Cisco WCSs

•Network-wide searches

•A link to return to Cisco WCS Navigator when directed to a regional Cisco WCS from Cisco WCS Navigator

Requirements for Cisco WCS Navigator

This section describes the hardware requirements, client requirements, and the supported operating systems.

Hardware Requirements for Cisco WCS Navigator

The following server hardware and software are required to support Cisco WCS Navigator for Windows or Linux operating systems:

•A minimum of 3.2-GHz Intel Dual Core processor with 4 GB of RAM and an 80-GB hard drive

•A minimum of 40-GB disk space on your hard drive

Up to 20 wireless control systems are supported depending on the Cisco WCS Navigator license.

Note For all server levels, AMD processors, which are equivalent to the listed Intel processors, are also supported.

Note The available disk space listed is a minimum requirement but might be different for your system depending on the number of backups.

Note The recommended screen resolution for Cisco WCS Navigator is 1024 x 768 pixels.

Client Requirements

We recommend the following web browsers on a Windows platform:

•Windows Internet Explorer 7 or later releases with the Flash plugin

•Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or later releases

Using a web browser running on Windows Server 2003 to access the Cisco WCS Navigator web GUI is not recommended because Windows Server 2003 security settings may result in browsing problems.

The client running the web browser must have a minimum of 1 GB of RAM and a 2-GHz processor. The client device should not be running any CPU or memory-intensive applications.

Note For both Cisco WCS and Cisco WCS Navigator, we recommend a minimum screen resolution of
1024 x 768 pixels.

Supported Operating Systems

The following operating systems are supported:

•Windows Server 2003 SP2 or later releases with all critical and security Windows updates installed. Windows Server 2003 64-bit installations are not supported.

Note Windows Server 2003 32-bit installations provide support for up to 64 GB of RAM if the Physical Address Extension (PAE) is enabled. See the Windows documentation for instructions on enabling this mode.

•Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.x—Only 32-bit operating system installations are supported.

Note Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.x—64-bit operating system installations are not supported.

Note A 32-bit operating system running on 64-bit capable hardware is supported for both Windows and Linux operating systems.

•Windows Server 2003 and Red Hat Linux support on VMware ESX 3.0.1 and later releases.

Note VMware must be installed on a system with these minimum requirements:
Quad CPU running at 3.16 GHz
8-GB RAM
200-GB hard drive

Note Individual operating systems running WCS in VMware must follow the specifications for the number of WCSs that you intend to use.

Important Notes

This section describes the operational notes for Cisco WCS Navigator.

WCS and Navigator Compatibility

Cisco WCS and Cisco WCS Navigator must be from the same release in order to be compatible (see Table 1). Although the release numbers may vary, you must verify whether they were part of the same release.

For example, Cisco WCS Navigator 1.0 is compatible with Cisco WCS 4.1, and Cisco WCS Navigator 1.1.x is compatible with any Cisco WCS 4.2.x.

Note When Cisco WCS Navigator is upgraded to a new version, the corresponding Cisco WCS must also be upgraded to the corresponding new version. For example, if Cisco WCS Navigator is upgraded to version 1.6, Cisco WCS must also be upgraded to the corresponding version 7.0.

Note Ensure that the MAX HEAP SIZE is set to 1024m in the startServer.bat file if you are using MS Windows or startServer.sh file if you are using Linux. If set to a lesser value, it may result in an OutOfMemoryException.

Japanese Microsoft Windows Support

Cisco WCS Navigator can also be used on a server using the Japanese version of the Microsoft Windows operating system. By default, Cisco WCS Navigator runs in English.

Adobe Flash Player 9.0.115.0 is required.

Caveats
