优势:
它通过ISP共享网络和企业网络保护从客户端到企业网络的整个连接。
它不需要在ISP网络上进行额外配置。如果没有客户端启动的隧道,则需要配置ISP NAS或其Radius/TACACS+服务器以启动到HGW的隧道。因此,企业必须与许多ISP协商,以允许用户通过其网络进行隧道传输。使用客户端启动的隧道,最终用户可以连接到任何ISP,然后手动启动到企业网络的隧道。
缺点:
它的可扩展性不如ISP发起的隧道。由于客户端发起的隧道为每个客户端创建单独的隧道,因此HGW必须单独终止大量隧道。
客户端必须管理用于启动隧道的客户端软件。这通常是企业支持相关问题的根源。
客户端必须拥有ISP的帐户。由于客户端发起的隧道只能在与ISP建立连接后创建,因此客户端必须有一个帐户才能连接到ISP网络。
运行原理
以下是本文档中示例的工作原理:
客户端PC拨入NAS,使用客户端的ISP帐户进行身份验证,并从ISP获取IP地址。
客户端启动并构建到L2TP网络服务器HGW(LNS)的L2TP隧道。 客户端将重新协商IP控制协议(IPCP),并从LNS获取新的IP地址。
创建两个拨号网络(DUN)连接:

要为L2TP创建和配置DUN连接,请在Windows 200客户端PC上执行以下步骤:
从“开始”菜单中,选择设置>控制面板>网络和拨号连接>新建连接。
使用向导创建名为 L2TP 的连接。确保在“网络连接类型”窗口中选择“通过Internet连接到专用网络”。您还必须指定LNS/HGW的IP地址或名称。

使用Advanced按钮可以定义静态Windows Internet命名服务(WINS)和DNS信息。通过Options选项卡,可以关闭IPSec或为连接分配不同的策略。在安全选项卡下,可以定义用户身份验证参数。例如,PAP、CHAP、MS-CHAP或Windows域登录。有关应在客户端上配置的参数的信息,请咨询网络系统管理员。
配置连接后,您可以双击该连接以弹出登录屏幕,然后进行连接。
如果您的L2TP隧道使用IP安全(IPSec)和/或Microsoft点对点加密(MPPE),则必须在LNS/HGW上的虚拟模板配置下定义此命令。

请记住,这需要加密的Cisco IOS软件功能集(至少IPSec功能集或带3DES的IPSec)。
默认情况下,IPSec在Windows 2000上启用。如果要禁用它,必须使用注册表编辑器修改Windows注册表:
