TelePresence Solutions

Cisco® TelePresence is an innovative new technology that combines rich audio, high-definition video, and interactive elements to deliver a unique, “in-person” experience—over the network. It is designed to bring users closer to the important people, places, and events in their personal and professional lives. The first application, the Cisco TelePresence Meeting solution, creates a live, face-to-face meeting experience, empowering users to interact and collaborate like never before. The Cisco TelePresence Meeting is purpose-built to be a completely different meeting experience, taking interaction and collaboration to a new level. Because it feels like everyone is in the same room, remote interactions are just as natural and effective as in-person communication, simplifying and accelerating information sharing throughout your organization—thereby impacting your top and bottom lines.

Key Benefits

  • Cisco TelePresence lets you improve productivity and responsiveness by focusing on more interactions with the right resource at the right time. It speeds time to market and enables faster decision making. At the same time, you can improve quality of life by giving employees back valuable time and, more importantly, control over their time with solutions that are as high-performance as they are. Imagine bringing more resources into an account for sales or support, and extending your reach and relationships without ever leaving your office.
  • Critical to delivering this experience are breakthrough innovations in delivering very high-quality audio and ultra high-definition video at very low latency with limited bandwidth utilization, in addition to the meeting environment itself. The Cisco TelePresence Meeting solution delivers true life-size images, ultra-high-definition video (both 720p and 1080p), and spatial audio, which creates the dynamics of voices coming directly from the participants. This scenario creates a “room within a room” environment that makes users feel as if they are at the same table with people in remote locations. In addition to direct eye contact, the full-duplex, near-zero latency allows users to communicate in real time, catching every comment and every nuance of the conversation. Every expression, every gesture is now clearly visible, whether you are meeting across town or across time zones.
  • The Cisco TelePresence Meeting solution offers different room systems for different applications. The Cisco TelePresence 3000 enables a meeting for 6 people per room, creating a “virtual table” for 12 participants. This setup is ideal for group meetings and small team interactions. Meanwhile, the Cisco TelePresence 1000 is a unique design, enabling a small meeting for 2 per room or up to 4 at the virtual table, and is designed to be used in small-footprint spaces, such as executive offices, hotel lobbies, bank branches, or doctors' offices—anywhere a one-on-one or small group conversation is desired.
  • Within your meeting, Cisco TelePresence offers the ability to add audio and Web collaboration capabilities for even greater effect. You can conference in remote participants from their mobile phones, and can share documents over the network, simply by plugging in your PC. Whether you are meeting with one party or many, the Cisco TelePresence Meeting solution can scale to meet your needs. The high-definition video switch handles more than two locations per call with the same “one button to push” ease as a point-to-point call.
  • In addition to the system hardware, Cisco TelePresence includes a suite of software solutions. The Cisco TelePresence Manager interfaces with your enterprise groupware to enable scheduling with your calendar. It also pushes this information to the phone, and enables you to push a single button to launch calls.

CiscoTelePresence Manager

Cisco TelePresence Manager is a software that collects information about Cisco TelePresence systems from Cisco Unified CallManager and associates those systems to their physical location or conference room as defined in Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange.

The Cisco TelePresence Meeting solution combines audio, video, and interactive elements to create the feeling of being “in person” with participants in remote locations. Key to this experience is Cisco TelePresence Manager, which makes it easy to set up and launch calls. The Cisco TelePresence Manager software application enables this simplicity by intelligently automating many scheduling and conferencing tasks, so users can focus on the meeting, not the technology, and communicate as naturally and effectively as they would face-to-face.

Overview

Cisco TelePresence Manager is essential for delivering the full value of a Cisco TelePresence Meeting solution. It collects information about Cisco TelePresence systems from Cisco Unified CallManager and associates those systems to their physical location or conference room as defined in Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange. This allows users to schedule Cisco TelePresence meetings from their Microsoft Outlook group calendar and have that schedule automatically sent to the Cisco TelePresence systems involved in the call. This way, users can launch the Cisco TelePresence call with the push of one button, simply by selecting their meeting from the list of meetings shown on the Cisco Unified IP Phone in the meeting room.

Applications

The Cisco TelePresence Manager offers users the following key features and benefits:

  • Web-based user interface —Provides easy administration without a desktop-loaded client. Simple views allow users to monitor Cisco TelePresence rooms, scheduled meetings, and system-level information.
  • Easy scheduling —Users can schedule meetings using their enterprise groupware (Microsoft Outlook with Exchange) and have that meeting posted to the display of the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7970G in the meeting room. This minimizes user training and support.
  • “One button to push” to launch calls —Users select their scheduled call from the display on the phone in the meeting room to launch calls. This simplicity also minimizes user training and support.

  • Microsoft Exchange compatibility —Cisco TelePresence Manager synchronizes with Microsoft Exchange using Active Directory to collect information for Cisco TelePresence meetings.
  • Automatic schedule synchronization —Cisco TelePresence Manager will automatically synchronize all meetings when new TelePresence rooms come online. It will also resynchronize with Microsoft Exchange whenever it has lost connectivity due to a network or hardware problem.
  • Transparent scheduling interface —Cisco TelePresence Manager does not require any client software or Microsoft Outlook plug-ins in order to schedule and automatically launch calls. Instead it acts as a room-scheduling proxy and receives and processes all meeting invitations sent and received by Cisco TelePresence rooms.

  • Integration with groupware and Cisco Unified CallManager —Enables automatic schedule synchronization and device discovery.
  • Device discovery —Cisco TelePresence Manager connects with Cisco Unified CallManager to discover information about the Cisco TelePresence systems installed. This information includes device name, MAC address, IP address, directory number, room name, and IP phone associated with the Cisco TelePresence system. Cisco TelePresence Manager will also receive the current registration state of both the Cisco TelePresence endpoint and its associated IP phone for diagnostics.
  • Modular architecture —Simplifies future extensions and support for additional devices and other groupware scheduling applications.
  • Investment protection —Uses existing network and communications infrastructure for a faster return on investment (ROI).

Product Architecture

Cisco TelePresence Manager uses the same platform infrastructure as Cisco Unified CallManager 5.1, following its appliance model principles. Its administrative user interface is a single software entity that provides access to a Web-based GUI for initial setup and installation. Information retrieval takes place through standard interfaces such as Extensible Markup Language (XML), Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Computer Telephony Integration (CTI), and Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV).

Cisco TelePresence Manager 1.0 is a software application loaded on a Cisco 7835 Media Convergence Server and run as a standalone application. It cannot be deployed co-resident with any other Cisco application on that hardware.
