Telecom Approvals Listing

The Cisco Security MARS Appliances 5.x meets the requirements listed in this section for telecommunications equipment.

FCC Part 68 Notice

The Cisco Security MARS Appliances 5.x equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules. A label on the bottom of the chassis contains the FCC registration number among other information. If requested, this information must be provided to the telephone company.

This equipment cannot be used on telephone company-provided coin services. Connection to the Party Line Service is subject to state tariffs.

If this equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company will notify you in advance that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. If advance notice is not practical, the telephone company will notify you as soon as possible. You will be advised of your right to file a complaint with the FCC if you believe it is necessary.

The telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operations, or procedures that might affect the operation of the equipment. If this happens, the telephone company will provide advance notice in order for you to make the necessary modifications to maintain uninterrupted service.

If you experience trouble with this equipment, please contact Cisco Systems for repair and warranty information. If the problem is causing harm to the telephone network, the telephone company might request that you remove the equipment from the network until the problem is resolved. All repairs should be handled by authorized Cisco Systems service personnel.

We recommend that you install an AC surge arrestor in the AC outlet to which this device is connected. This action will help to avoid damage to the equipment caused by local lightning strikes and other electrical surges.

Observe the following general information and safety precautions:

•The industry Canada label identifies CS-03 certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets certain telecommunications network protection, operation, and safety requirements as described in the appropriate terminal equipment requirements document(s). The department does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user's satisfaction.

•Before installing the equipment, check that you have permission to connect it to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.

•Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or any equipment malfunctions, may cause the telecommunications company to request that the user disconnect the equipment.

EMC Environmental Conditions for Products Installed in the European Union

This section applies to products to be installed in the European Economic Union.

The equipment is intended to operate under the following environmental conditions with respect to EMC:

Class A Notice for FCC

Modifying the equipment without Cisco's authorization may result in the equipment no longer complying with FCC requirements for Class A digital devices. In that event, your right to use the equipment may be limited by FCC regulations, and you may be required to correct any interference to radio or television communications at your own expense.

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. GR-1089-Core Intrabuilding Lightning—Immunity Requirements

Caution To comply with GR-1089-Core intrabuilding lightning-immunity requirements, you must use shielded (screened) cable that is grounded at both ends.

•Before installing the equipment, check that you have permission to connect it to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.

•Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or any equipment malfunctions, may cause the telecommunications company to request that the user disconnect the equipment.

•Ensure that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines, and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural areas.

PTC200 General Warning

The grant of a Telepermit for any item of terminal equipment indicates only that Telecom has accepted that the item complies with minimum conditions for connection to its network. It indicates no endorsement of the product by Telecom, nor does it provide any sort of warranty. Above all, it provides no assurance that any item will work correctly in all respects with another item of Telepermitted equipment of a different make or model, nor does it imply that any product is compatible with all of Telecom's network services.

PTC200 2.11.1 (6) & (7) Compliance Testing (Functional tests)

This equipment is not capable, under all operating conditions, of correct operation at the higher speeds for which it is designed. Telecom will accept no responsibility should difficulties arise in such circumstances. This condition typically applies to 56Kb/s V.90 modems and 14.4Kb/s V.32bis facsimile machines.

PTC200 8.1.3 (2) 8.1.4 (b) & 8.2.1 Automatic Call Setup

Some parameters required for compliance with Telecom's Telepermit requirements are dependent on the equipment (PC) associated with this device. The associated equipment shall be set to operate within the following limits for compliance with Telecom's Specifications:

There shall be no more than 10 call attempts to the same number within any 30 minute period for any single manual call initiation, and The equipment shall go on-hook for a period of not less than 30 seconds between the end of one attempt and the beginning of the next call attempt.

Automatic calls to different numbers are spaced such that there is not less than 5 seconds between the end of one call attempt and the beginning of another.

Equipment shall be set to ensure that calls are answered within 3 and 30 seconds of the receipt of ringing.

PTC200 8.1.7 (b) User Instructions (Automatic Call Setup)

This equipment shall not be set up to make automatic calls to Telecom's 111 Emergency Service.
