Upgrade Information

If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Cisco Unity, see the following sections for information for upgrading the networking options.

Upgrades with Digital Networking

Upgrading Digital Networking does not require anything other than upgrading the Cisco Unity servers according to the instructions in the Cisco Unity Reconfiguration and Upgrade Guide, available at http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_unity/rug/ex/index.htm.

However, you may want to enable identified subscriber messaging between networked Cisco Unity subscribers. This feature was introduced in Cisco Unity 3.1(6) and 4.0(3).

Upgrades with SMTP Networking

After upgrading the Cisco Unity servers, SMTP Networking should continue to work. However, we recommend that you uninstall the previous version of the Voice Connector and install the new version. Other than upgrading the Voice Connector, there are no additional upgrade steps required.

See the following sections for information on uninstalling the Voice Connector and reinstalling it.

Upgrades with AMIS Networking

After upgrading the Cisco Unity servers, AMIS Networking should continue to work. However, we recommend that you uninstall the previous version of the Voice Connector and install the new version. Other than upgrading the Voice Connector, there are no additional upgrade steps required.

See the following sections for information on uninstalling the Voice Connector and reinstalling it.

In Cisco Unity 4.0(4), you can extend identified subscriber messaging to include AMIS subscribers. See the "Extending Identified Subscriber Messaging to Include AMIS Subscribers" section on page 4-19 for details on enabling this feature.

Upgrades with VPIM Networking

After upgrading the Cisco Unity servers, VPIM Networking should continue to work. However, we recommend that you uninstall the previous version of the Voice Connector and install the new version. Other than upgrading the Voice Connector, there are no additional upgrade steps required.

See the following sections for information on uninstalling the Voice Connector and reinstalling it.

Uninstalling the Cisco Unity Voice Connector

Setting Up the Voice Connector for VPIM Networking, page 6-9

In Cisco Unity 4.0(4), you can extend identified subscriber messaging to include VPIM subscribers. See the "Extending Identified Subscriber Messaging to Include VPIM Subscribers" section on page 6-21 for details on enabling this feature.

Removing SMTP Networking

Do the following tasks to remove the SMTP Networking option from Cisco Unity:

1. Uninstall all instances of the Voice Connector. See the applicable procedures in the "Uninstalling the Cisco Unity Voice Connector" section.

2. If desired, make note of the names, dial IDs, and domain names of all SMTP locations. (You may want this information if you plan to set up the networking option on another Cisco Unity server.)

3. If desired, run Subscriber Information Dump to save Internet Subscriber information to an output file. (You may want this information if you plan to set up the networking option on another Cisco Unity server.) See the "To Output Information About Internet Subscribers" procedure.

4. Delete all SMTP delivery locations, as applicable. See the "To Delete SMTP Delivery Locations" procedure.

5. Delete the Internet subscribers. You can delete the Internet subscribers by using the Cisco Unity Administrator, which will also delete the associated Active Directory contacts or Exchange 5.5 custom recipients. If you prefer, you can use Active Directory Users and Computers or Exchange 5.5 System Manager, as applicable, to first delete the associated contacts/custom recipients. In Cisco Unity 4.0 and later, when the underlying contacts/custom recipients are deleted, the Internet subscribers are automatically deleted from Cisco Unity. Choose from the following procedures:
