Methodology

The Hybrid Work Index is based on Cisco’s security, collaboration, and networking platform data. Analyzing millions of records of customer telemetry data – aggregated and anonymized – has uncovered insights and trends for this era of hybrid work.

Such sources include:

• Cisco Meraki: Network usage patterns and branch traffic trends
• Cisco Secure Access by Duo: Remote access authentication
• Cisco ThousandEyes: Network outages and application monitoring
• Cisco Umbrella: Evolving cyber-threats and mitigation
• Cisco Webex: Collaboration usage behaviors

Platform telemetry data insights are supported by third-party research and employee data, including:

• Webex-MIT Hybrid Work Study: A global online survey conducted by MIT SMR, sponsored by Webex by Cisco, that drew responses from 1,561 employees at organizations in 56 countries to identify current trends and future priorities for hybrid and remote work. Respondents span generations, a range of roles, and represent organizations of all sizes in a variety of industries.
• Cisco Global Hybrid Work Study 2022: A global, non-U.S. survey aiming to uncover insights around how employees have fared over the past two years as hybrid and remote working has been commonplace. Respondents span generations, a range of roles, and represent organizations of all sizes in a variety of industries. ​
• Cisco Employee Data: From Cisco’s “Team Space” weekly worker-to-manager check-ins and an internal survey on work preferences and engagement.
