As part of its commitment to help digitize Brazil and build a lasting legacy for Rio de Janeiro, Cisco recently announced a technology partnership with Rio’s Museum of Tomorrow (Museu do Amanhã), which includes the creation of a Digital Creative Workshop at the Museum’s Activities of Tomorrow Lab. The venue will offer courses, IoT (Internet of Things) scripts and creative development kits, as well as provide artistic display panels for the data worked out by the participants.
Cisco and Museum of Tomorrow’s partnership aims to encourage the IoT innovation ecosystem and increase the use of technology in the community by fostering the development of new solutions on the urban connected platform that Cisco is implementing at Porto Maravilha as part of the Urban Legacy project.
Through the partnership, Cisco will also provide the state-of-the-art collaboration technology, endowing the Activities of Tomorrow Lab, the Observatory of Tomorrow, and the Museum’s auditorium with Telepresence solutions and Webex.
"Our aim is to encourage innovation through the development of IoT-based digital solutions, in addition to a social purpose to help digitalize collaboration between the Museum and the world,” said Nina Lualdi, Cisco Innovation director for Latin America. “Through this partnership we will enable digital artists, application developers, engineers, students, researchers and other professionals to experiment with solutions to transform the lives of citizens in urban environments. In order to achieve this, they will have access to Cisco’s connected platform in Porto Maravilha, and data collected in real time.”
This partnership is part of a larger initiative to encourage social and urban innovation in Porto Maravilha. Through public and private sectors, Porto Maravilha area should become a unique model of a Smart Neighborhood, including both residential and commercial areas, connected public transport network and efficient telecommunications infrastructure. By partnering with Rio de Janeiro City Government, Cisco’s goal is to turn the port area into a unique model of a “Human” Smart Neighborhood, allowing citizens and visitors to connect with each other, with the city and with the Government.
