Supported Standards

Cisco WAPMS complies with the following standard Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) platforms or methods:

Standard MIB Support—Cisco WAPMS Analysis Service Elements (ASEs) comply with RFCs 1213 (MIB II), 1406 (DS1), 1315 (Frame Relay DTE), and 1757 (RMON), which provide configuration and statistical information. Data from these Management Information Bases (MIBs) can be gathered directly from ASEs through any SNMP management system. (See Table F-1.)

SNMP Trap Export—all Cisco WAPMS ASE-generated traps may be sent to other managers that add details such as source network, access line, PVC name, and English explanations using Event Forwarding. See the "Event Forwarding" section.

Table F-1 RFCs and MIBs Supported by Cisco WAPMS ASEs

RFC or MIB
Supported Group

MIB II (RFC 1213)

System group

Interfaces group

Transmission group (see DS1 MIB support and Frame Relay DTE MIB support below)

TCP group

IP group

ICMP group

UDP group

SNMP group

Frame Relay DTE MIB (RFC 1315)

DLCMI group

DS1 MIB

Configuration group

Fractional group for configuration

NearEnd Stat group

DDS MIB

A DDS statistics group is implemented as a public MIB for ASEs.

RMON (RFC 1757)

(RMON is a LAN monitoring standard. Groups relevant to WAN monitoring have been implemented for Cisco WAPMS ASEs. The remaining groups deal specifically with Ethernet or Token Ring LAN statistics and are not relevant to WAN analysis.)

3 - Alarms—allows the setting of thresholds on various LAN traffic parameters to generate events which a probe counts or uses to generate SNMP traps.

7 - Filters—used with packet capture, this group provides a generic filter capability. It allows logical combinations of filters and maintains counts of each match while filtering packets matching the criteria into the packet capture buffer.

8 - Packet Capture—allows the creation of capture buffers and controls how the buffers are filled and how much of each packet is stored.

9 - Events—allows the creation of log entries or the generation of SNMP traps based on thresholds, counter values, or trigger conditions.
