Using Phone Settings


You can personalize your Cisco Unified Wireless IP Phone by adjusting the ring tone, phone screen, and phone lock settings.

Customizing Rings

You can customize your phone by adjusting settings such as ring tones and screen messages.

If you want to...
Then...

Change the ring tone per line

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Ring Tones > Select Ring Tone.

2. Choose a phone line or the default ring setting.

3. Choose a ring tone to play a sample of it.

The chosen ring tone plays and a appears next to it.

4. Press Back to return to Phone Settings.

Note You can choose among two default ring tones and one user downloaded ring tone.

Download ring tones from Cisco Unified CallManager

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Ring Tones.

2. Scroll to and select Download Ring Tone.

3. Scroll to and select the desired ring tone from list.

4. Press to see Play and press it to hear the selected ring tone.

A appears next to the downloaded ring tone.

5. Press Back to return to Phone Settings.

Note The downloaded ring tone appears in the list of ring tones for your phone.

Choose ring for headset

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Ring Tones.

2. Scroll to and select Output.

3. Scroll to and select ring output for speaker or for headset

A appears next to the output selection.

4. Press Back to return to Phone Settings.

Adjust the volume level for the phone ringer

See the "Changing User Profile Settings" section.


Tips

Before you can access the "Change the Ring settings..." item from the User Options web pages, your system administrator might need to enable this option for your phone.

Typically, the default system policy for the voice message light on your handset tells your phone to always light to indicate a new voice message.

When you access the Phone Settings menu, you might see only Phone Status on the screen depending on how the system administrator configured your phone.

Customizing the Phone Screen

You can adjust the characteristics and messages on your phone screen.

If you want to...
Then...

Change the start-up message on the phone screen

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Greeting Message.

2. Press Edit.

3. Enter a message up to 15 characters in length. See the "Entering and Editing Text" section.

4. Press OK to save the change, then Back to return to the Phone Settings.

Change the main phone screen message

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Welcome Message.

2. Press Edit.

3. Enter a message up to 10 characters in length. See the "Entering and Editing Text" section.

4. Press OK to save the change, then Back to return to the Phone Settings.

Change the back light for the phone display

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Backlight.

2. Scroll to Off or to On and press Select.

Change the font for the phone display

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Font.

2. Scroll to XML or to Internal and press Select.

Change the line text label

1. Log in to your User Options web pages. (See the"Accessing Your User Options Web Pages" section.

2. Change your line label settings.

Change the language on your phone screen

1. Log in to your User Options web pages. (See the"Accessing Your User Options Web Pages" section.

2. Change the language setting.


Changing Phone Lock Settings

You can secure access to your phone by enabling the Phone Lock feature. After powering on the phone, you must enter a password before the phone can authenticate with the wireless network.

If you want to...
Then...

Require the use of a password to unlock the phone when powering it on

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Phone Lock.

2. Scroll to and select On/Off.

3. Do one of the following and press then Select:

Scroll to Off to disable the phone lock.

On to require a phone lock password.

Change the Phone Lock password

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Phone Lock.

2. Scroll to and select Password.

3. Press Edit to enter the Phone Lock password (up to 10 numbers including * or #).

4. Press OK to confirm the change and Back to return to Phone Settings.

Note The default password is set to 12345.


Tips

If you enable the Phone Lock feature and have not changed the password, enter 12345 (default password) to unlock the phone.

If you change the Phone Lock password and forget it, you must contact your system administrator to have the phone unlocked and reset. All your personal settings and your Phone Book entries will be deleted.

Setting the Keypad to Automatically Lock

You can set your phone to automatically lock the keypad after a time interval.

If you want to...
Then...

Automatically lock the keypad after using the phone

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Auto KeyLock.

2. Scroll to and select one of these time intervals:

Auto 15 seconds

Auto 30 seconds

Auto 60 seconds

Note Under the Auto KeyLock option, the indicates the selection.

Unlock the keypad

1. Press and hold the key.

The screen displays "Keylock Off?"

2. Press OK and the icon disappears.

Turn off the automatic keypad lock

1. Choose Menu > Phone Settings > Auto KeyLock.

2. Scroll to and select Off.

Note Under the Auto KeyLock option, the appears next to Off.


Tips

To keep from pressing keys and redialing calls accidently, use the auto keylock feature.

Auto lock is enabled only when the phone is idle and at the main screen.
